TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Google has separated the photo feature from Google Plus and changed its name to Streams.
Bradley Horowitz, Google VP of product, said he had become the lead for the new Google Photos and Streams.
"We're trying to do something broader that helps people communicate wherever they are using whatever products they prefer,” said Bradley in a post on Google Plus.
The name change gains significant attention as it could possibly suggest that Google is planning to shut down or fundamentally change the brand.
At the same time, the future of Hangouts in Google Plus remains unclear. If separated, Hangouts will compete with WhatsApp and Snapchat, which have been relatively popular.
According to Horowitz, Hangouts has a particularly broad scope. "It's texting, it's telephony, it's one-to-one, it's many-to-many, it's consumer, it's enterprise," he said.
