TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Political expert from the Indonesian Science Institute (LIPI), Ikrar Nusa Bhakti, said that exercising the right of inquiry can be considered as an effort to topple Ahok. Ahok's dismissal, Ikrar explained, would pave a way for Djarot Saiful Hidayat, Ahok's Deputy Governor, to assume power.
"This is an example of political interest," Ikrar told Tempo.
Ikrar asserted that having Djarot to replace Ahok can disturb Indonesian democratic practices because he was not elected through regional election.
Recently, the National Awakening Party (PKB) Faction and the National Democratic (NasDem) Faction have withdrawn their support on imposing the right of inquiry against Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama.
On the other hand, the National Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Faction, one of the party that supports Ahok during the regional election, act as one of the main power that supports the exercise of right of inquiry against Ahok.
