TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Alissa Wahid, a daughter of the nation’s fourth president Abdurrahman “Gus Dur” Wahid, has regretted the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) fresh decision to hand over the graft case implicating Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan to the Attorney General’s Office (AGO). Alissa said the KPK should have continued probing the case.
“I’m against the handover of the case to the AGO, this seems to be an effort to clip the KPK's wings,” she told Tempo on Tuesday, March 3, 2015.
The Indonesian graft-busters submitted Budi’s case files to the AGO on Monday, March 2. The files will later be transferred to the National Police’s detective department (Bareskrim). Acting KPK chief Taufiequrrahman Ruki claimed surrendering the files to the AGO was a last resort.
“Why did Taufiequrrahman Ruki make that decision? He did not heed the aspirations of his staffers,” Alissa said, adding that was why KPK employees staged a protest in front of their own headquarters on Tuesday. “Our friends have taken their stance; they reject the decision of their acting chief.”
Alissa said some 300 anti-graft activists would stage another protest on Wednesday. “We are supporting KPK employees who are against the KPK leaders. They are having a tough struggle,” she said.
