TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The NasDem Party has revoked its support for using right of inquiry towards Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama and asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to probe alleged irregularities in the regional budget.
“The goal is the same. Let the KPK investigate,” said NasDem politician Enggartiasto Lukito on Monday. Ahok has previously reported to the KPK on alleged ‘phantom’ funds in the Jakarta budget.
NasDem secretary-general Patrice Rio Capela already summoned Jakarta NasDem chairman Ahmad Sahroni to clarify this issue and said NasDem central executive board asked NasDem faction to revoke its support and withdraw its members from right of inquiry committee. “We apologize for this chaos,” said Rio.
He asked the Home Affairs Ministry to facilitate the dispute between Ahok and the DPRD so that it could be put to an end and development could continue.
Ahmad Sahroni said he was summoned by Surya Paloh, the party’s chairman, on Sunday. In the meeting, Surya asked about explanation regarding the use of right of inquiry. After that, Surya asked NasDem faction to withdraw its support because the case had been reported to the KPK. “We want to seek the truth,” he said.
