TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Manchester United could keep the League Champions hope alive as they won over Sunderland 2-0 in the Premier League match at Old Trafford on Saturday, February 28. Both winning goals were attributed to Wayne Rooney who finally scored after goalless and assist-less record in his last eight matches.
Rooney scored the opener through penalty in minute 66 after a foul on Radamel Falcao. There was a bit of stir as the referee sent out Sunderland’s Wes Brown for the foul instead of John O’Shea who obviously did it.
Rooney converted bouncing ball from Adnan Januzaj into second goal for the Red Devils in minute 84. Rooney became the first player in Premier League history to score 10+ goals in 11 successive seasons.
For Manchester United, the victory marks their resurrection after a loss to Swansea 2-1. The Red Devils ascended to the third position with 50 points from 27 matches. They are two points ahead of Arsenal who ready to play Everton tonight.
Sunderland stay in the 16th place with 25 points from 26 matches.
