TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -The Healthcare and Social Services Agency's (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) is planning to launch its own retirement fund program in July this year. The government is planning to take part and provide financial contribution to the agency's program.

Irianto Simbolon, director general of industrial relations and social security at the Ministry of Labor, said there are two options for the government to contribute. The first option is by paying a monthly premium, and the second is to allocate contingency funds derived from the State Budget.

Irianto said the two options are currently being reviewed by relevant ministries.

The government's involvement is expected to help anticipate the likeliness of insufficient funding during an elderly boom. Additional funds from the government would be needed for a long term of 30-50 years, when there will be more retirees than insurers.
