TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple and LG have signed a multi-billion dollar deal with Samsung to supply next generation RAM modules in their latest device named LG G4 and Apple iPhone 6S (or iPhone 7) for the time being.
The news was proclaimed by a South Korean media, but did not mention exactly what type of random access memory (RAM) will Samsung supply for the two handsets.
Samsung recently announced it has started mass production of DDR4 RAM, made with the 20nm process, as well as "stackable" 3 GB RAM/32 GB storage combo, which is the next generation from DDR3.
"Under the agreement, Samsung will start providing LG Electronics with 100 percent mobile DRAM chips it needs for LG G4 smartphone, which will be unveiled in April,” a source said.
“Samsung will handle at least half of the amount that Apple needs for its new iPhone tentatively named iPhone 6S."
The new DRAM type DDR4 offers twice the density and the I/O performance, for starters, compared to DDR3.
Samsung reportedly will be supplying no less than 70 percent of Apple's A9 chipset for the iPhone 7.
