TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Although Manchester United’s frontline is made up of strikers worth £100 million in total, manager Louis Van Gaal admits that the club don’t have striker who can score many goals this season.
“It is true because I cannot deny it – Robin van Persie cannot deny it, Falcao cannot deny it and Rooney is not playing there much any more. We cannot deny that, at this moment, we don’t have a striker who scores 20 goals in the season,” said the Dutch as quoted by The Guardian.
Van Gaal, however, believe that the current condition of the squad does not reflect what they will achieve next season. He said that his strikers may have just been ‘unlucky’ this year.
“This does not tell [us] anything about next year. They could be having an unlucky year and I have to decide, with my staff, if it is [this] or other aspects,” he added.
MU’s weak frontline may bring trouble in the upcoming match against 16-ranked Sunderland tonight. The Red Devils have had rough experiences playing against lower-rank teams as they were defeated by Queen Park Ranger 2-0, held draw by West Ham 1-1 and on February 21, MU were trashed by Swansea City 2-1.
Van Gaal’s squad is heading to Sunderland clash with only two victory on the record after their last six matches. Sunderland held MU in draw 1-1 in their last encounter on August 24 last year.
