TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Unggung Cahyono said the police would launch massive patrols and raids to combat violent robbers—locally known as begal—in Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Depok and Bekasi.
Unggung said the crackdown would involve joint personnel. “From the Jakarta Police, Resort Police Stations, and the Mobile Brigade (Brimob),” he said in his office on Friday, February 27, 2015.
Unggung explained he had ordered chiefs of resort police stations under his jurisdiction to track down where the stolen goods were sold. “We will seal all locations where the stolen motorbikes are sold,” he said.
He continued that the operations would focus on fighting violent robberies, aggravated robberies and grand theft auto.
Earlier, the Jakarta Police rolled out a series of raids against robbers in the capital from January to February 2015, in which they captured 244 suspects—comprising 93 suspects in violent robberies, 87 suspects in aggravated robberies, and 64 suspects in grand theft auto.
