Rice Price in Manado Increases Sharply

TEMPO.CO, Manado - Rice prices in the city of Manado, North Sulawesi, have increased sharply in the past two days. The increase reaches up to Rp 3,000 per kilogram or around 30 percent from the normal price. From Tempo’s observation, at some traditional markets, the increase is experienced by the Pulo type rice, from its previous Rp 11,000 to Rp 14,000 per kilogram.
Superwin rice price also increase from Rp 10,000 to Rp 12,000 per kilogram. The Temo Pondan rice price was up from Rp 9,000 to Rp 12,000 per kilogram meanwhile price for Serayu rice is up from Rp 8,000 to Rp 10,000 per kilogram.
Head of Manado Industrial and Trade Agency Dante Tombeg, said that he will find out what causes the price increase. "The lack of rice supply clearly becomes a national matter. But we will directly check with the distributors, whether it actually lack of supply or [if there is hoarding]," Tombeg said.
