Hundreds of Schools to Have Online National Exams This Year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Minister Anies Baswedan said national exams (UN) this year would be held online and become trial for senior high school students.
"[The online exams] this year are only trial. Around 500 schools are ready for online national exams,” said Anies on Wednesday.
Despite the relatively-small figure, Anies said he was optimistic that more schools would be ready for online national exams in the years to come.
Anies said he did not want the online exams to burden schools, thus they were only organized for schools with adequate facilities. “We will see the results first and evaluate them. If we push all schools to implement them, it will be troublesome,” he said.
He further said online national exams could minimize the leak of exam questions, besides more environmentally-friendly and efficient—allowing for the 7.3 million students taking the exams anually.
“Just imagine how many sheets of papers that must be provided and how large the logistical constraints are,” he said.
