TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR-RI) Farouk Muhammad called on countries whose citizens are slated to be executed in Indonesia not to intervene in the execution process.
"I understand that there are objections in terms of human rights. However, they must also respect and understand the legal system in Indonesia,” said Farouk.
As previously reported, several countries whose citizens are to be executed put pressure on the Indonesian government and urged Indonesia to cancel the execution.
The Australian government, for example, reminded Indonesia that Australian once helped Indonesia after Tsunami hit Aceh so Indonesia has to reciprocate by canceling the execution.
In the meantime, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff recently postponed accepting the credentials of ambassador-designate Toto Riyanto as an act of protest.
Indonesia then recalled its ambassador-designate from Brazil.
According to Farouk, if the legal process in Indonesia continued to be intervened, then it would be difficult for Indonesia to reach legal sovereignty.
"Actually countries who are now against death sentences are the ones that imposed death sentence in the past. They should have understood the legal process done by the Indonesian government,” Farouk said.
