TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – National Police deputy chief Comr. Gen. Badrodin Haiti said he had met with Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan after President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo announced the cancellation of Budi’s inauguration as the next top cop. According to Badrodin, Budi also expressed his support for Badrodin’s nomination as the National Police chief.
“I asked him [Budi Gunawan] whether he was disappointed. But he respected the president’s decision,” Badrodin said on Thursday, February 19, 2015.
On Wednesday, February 18, 2015, Jokowi scrapped Budi Gunawan’s inauguration as the National Police chief as it sparked controversies among public. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named Budi Gunawan a graft suspect, which was later dismissed by Judge Sarpin Rizaldi in a pretrial hearing at the South Jakarta District Court.
Jokowi then appointed Badrodin as the new National Police Chief candidate. Badrodin will undergo a fit and proper test after the House of Representatives ended its recess.
Badrodin said he was currently preparing to present his visions and missions, in which settling the conflict between the KPK and the National Police were among the priorities, before the House.
