TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Ministry of State Owned Enterprises is mulling to review the structure of SOEs' subsidiaries to keep them under the ministry's watch. "Overall, there are about 700 companies outside the number of SOEs," SOE Minister Rini Soemarno said in Jakarta last week.
Later, Rini said, the ministry will be responsible for the business continuity of the SOES' subsidiaries, making sure that their activities don't stray too far from the core business.
The business rearrangement of SOE subsidiaries had previously been done by Rini's predecessor. Former SOE minister Dahlan Iskan in 2012 asked several SOEs to let go of subsidiaries with minimum contribution, whose dealings are not in sync with their holding company's core business. Some SOEs Dahlan focused on included Krakatau Steel, PT Industri Kapal Indonesia, PT Pal Indonesia, PT Dirgantara Indonesia, and PT Industri Telekomunikasi Indonesia.
