Police Arrest Illegal Immigrants from Myanmar, Bangladesh

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police in Pesisir Selatan, West Sumatra province, arrested 30 illegal immigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh.
Those immigrants were reportedly bound to Christmas Island, Australia to seek asylum.
Head of Pesisir Selatan Report Police AKBP Toto Fajar said that the immigrants were found in several places in Pesisir Selatan, namely in Jurai and Bayang.
"Yesterday, we found 24 immigrants. Today we also found 6 immigrant near the house of a resident in Bayang," Toto said to Tempo on Friday, 13 February 2015.
Toto also said that the immigrants were arrested when they were heading to the seashore to sail to Christmas Island and when they were interrogated, they could not show necessary documents such as passports.
In the meantime, Head of Supervision Division of Padang Immigration Office Padang Isman Jayadi confirmed the arrest of those illegal immigrants in Pesisir Selatan.
"We are currently detaining those immigrants at Wisma Padang," Isman said.
