TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Japanese government is ardent on investing in several infrastructure projects in West Java. Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Yasuaki Tanizaki, said investors from his country are eyeing road, power plant, and port construction projects in the province.
Mr. Tanizaki said West Java is considered as a strategic location for investment. According to the ambassador, one project Japanese investors are keen on investing in is the Port Cilamaya construction in Karawang.
"This is an important time to have discussion on the Cilamaya project through coordination with the Indonesian government," he said.
Last year, Japanese investors spent US$2.7 billion in West Java. In addition to Port Cilamaya, the Japanese government is conducting the due diligence for the Jakarta-Bandung Shinkansen (bullet train). The project, undertaken by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is scheduled for completion in March 2015.
