TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s outstanding conductor Avip Priatna marked his 50th birthday by holding a grand concert entitled '50 Years of Blessing' at Balai Resital Kertanegara on Saturday.
Avip gave birth, and raised, the Jakarta Concert Orchestra, Batavia Madrigal Singers and The Resonanz Music Studio to popularize classical music in Indonesian society.
The concert was enliven with compositions personally selected by Avip sung and performed by many of well-known Indonesian classical singers and composers such as Aning Katamsi, Farman Purnama, pianist Iswargia Renardi Sundarno, Oerip S. Santoso, Valentina Nova, Yoanita Muliawan, Four Tenors, and Batavia Madrigal.
“It was 100 percent my selection, to show my respect to those who have made me who I am now,” said Avip after the concert.
Avip was referring to his music teachers such as Oerip S. Santoso, Katrina, and Irawati, among others, as the people who have contributed to his success.
“He has a strong will, hard worker, and never giving up in reaching his dreams,” said Katrina about her disciple.
