TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Australia snatches their first Asian Cup throphy this year as the Socceroos survived South Korea 2-1 with extra time at ANZ Stadium, Sydney, on Saturday.
Australia’s Massimo Luongo scored the lead late at the first half of the uptight game. Korean side, which edged the game on the balance of play, finally got a deserved equaliser when star midfielder Son Heung-min scored very late at the second-half to send the match to extra time.
Australia, who took more domination on the ball possesion (52.6 percent), finally confirmed their victory through James Trois’s goal at the 105 minute.
The Socceroos champs the tournament on their third participation of the cup. Previously they were the runner up after losing at the quarter final.
