TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Diced tubers, tempe, and chips were served on the plates alongside black and white pepper produced by farmers of Terong Village, Dlingo District, Bantul Regency.
Amalia, a local-food researcher from Rumah Kita Bhoga -- also known as Kibo -- invited people to have a bite on the local food which is often called “ndeso” (country food). Amalia was the one who cooked the snacks.
The event was Local Food Festival that was held at Kedai Keblasuk in Condong Catur, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The event was initiated by a non government organization Aliansi Desa Sejahtera (Prosperous Village Alliance) in collaboration with Kedai Keblasuk Yogyakarta. The around-the-town local-food campaigns were also held in Jakarta and Bandung.
The National Coordinator of Aliansi Desa Sejahtera, Tejo Wahyu Jatmiko said that the event is a campaign to engage people to care for local food and Yogyakarta was chosen for its diverse kinds of local food.
According to Tejo, people have now less interest to local food despite its healthy and eco-friendly nature.
“Local foods are seen as identical to poor society and is not cool,” said Tejo.
