TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Starting this year, the officials and civil servants serving under the Jakarta Provincial Government must be careful if they want to have a smoke. This is because a strict punishment in the form of demotion will be imposed to employees who caught smoking in the office.
"If our warning is ignored three times, they will be demoted," stated Head of Jakarta Inspectorate, Lasro Marbun, as quoted by Antara News.
Marbun explained that the sanction is compliance with the Bylaw No. 2/2005 on Air Pollution Control. While its imposition refers to the Act No. 30/2014 on Government Administration. "In Article 20, mentions the Jakarta Inspectorate has the authority to supervise and run the policy," he explained.
He assessed that such smoking ban is a consequence over the increase in allowances received by officials and civil servants this year. "That's why they must be ready to accept any consequences," he stated.
He also asked the citizens and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to monitor and report the officials and civil servants who smoking in the office. "Don't hesitate, don't be afraid, report it," he said.
