TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - World’s No.1 tennis player Novak Djokovic secures his ticket to the Australia Open grand slam final after taking down fourth-seed Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 in a tough fight at Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, on Friday. On Sunday’s final, Djokovic is set to face sixth-seed Andy Murray of England.
There were ups and down along the match where Wawrinka won the second and fourth sets. However, Djokovic managed to rake up all the points at the decisive set and confirm his winning.
“I was ready for the battle and it was a great battle,” the Serb said after the match, as quoted by The Guardian.
“We pushed each other to the limit and I congratulate Stan on a great tournament. I think I played well, two sets to one and a break point, and I just played a couple of loose games. Stan is a quality player and I made my life very complicated. The first game of the fifth set was very close and making it 2-0 was crucial.”
About the final match against Andy Murray, Djokovic said he is looking forward to give fans a great match.
“Andy and I go back to when we were 12 years old,” he says. “We know each other for a long time and it’s nice to see we’re playing another grand slam final. We’ve played many and hopefully we can come up with another great match for you guys.”
Djokovic already have seven grand slam titles in his pocket while Murray had only collected two.
