TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United Arab Emirates (UAE) defeated 2007 champion Iraq 3-2 at the Hunter Stadium, Newcastle, Australia on Friday, to win third place in the 2015 Asian Cup. Iraq struggled with 10 men after defender Ahmed Ibrahim was sent out at the 56 minute.
UAE’s Ahmed Khalil shook the opponent’s net at the 16 minute to give his country a lead until Iraq overturned the position through goals by Walid Salim at the 28 minute and Amjad Khalaf at 42 minute.
Ahmed Khalil sunk his second goal at the 51 to make the game run in balance until Ahmad Ibrahim faulted Ali Ahmed Mabkhout. Ibrahim was red-carded and a penalty was succesfully executed by Mabkhout.
The Asian Cup title will be fought over by Australia and South Korea later today at ANZ Stadium, Sydney.
