AirAsia Pilot Shuts Computer Control Before Plane Crash

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two investigators with Indonesia’s National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) told Bloomberg in Jakarta on Thursday, January 29, 2015, that the pilot of AirAsia’s QZ8501 flight cut power to a critical computer system before it plunged to the Java sea.
The electronics control system served a function to prevent planes from running to slow or to reduce turbulence allowing comfortable flight for passengers. The pilot possibly cut the power to shut down the warning, and the action could affect other devices.
However, some aviation experts were still unsure of why pilots could not control the plane manually after the computer system was shut down. According to former A320 pilot John Cox, as reported by Bloomberg on January 29, 2015, the plane’s steep climb could cause the plane losing power and crashed into the sea.
The KNKT has released a preliminary report on the QZ8501 accident that killed 162 people.
“We have sent the preliminary report to related countries on January 28,” KNKT chairman Tatang Kurnaidi said on Thursday, January 29, 2015.
The KNKT, in the report, revealed 18 facts found about the QZ8501 flight. However, the fact that the aircraft’s computer system before it crashed were not included in the report.
