Foreign Investors Eyeing Indonesia's Electricity Sector

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) said there are seven foreign investors who had expressed their interest in Indonesia's electricity sectors, offering an estimated investment of US$20.4 billion. Three are Chinese investors while the rest comes from South Korea, India, Japan, and Portugal.
"Three Chinese companies are committed to invest US$19.9 billion," BKPM chief Franky Sibarani said in a written statement yesterday.
In 2014, the BKPM booked an investment total of Rp463.1 trillion, of which Rp297.3 trillion came from foreign investors. Singaporean investors were the biggest contributor with US$5.8 billion (20.4 percent), followed by Japanese investors with a contribution of US$2.7 billion (9.5 percent).
