TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) has released interim results of its investigation into the black boxes of AirAsia flight QZ8510 that crashed in Karimata Strait on December 28. KNKT investigation chief Mardjono Siswosuwarno said the report only comprised factual info of the incident.
“These reports are like an update. They also provide some perspectives on subsequent investigation,” he said on Thursday.
According to Mardjono, there are 18 points of factual information obtained by KNKT investigators. One of those points is that the plane was in a good condition and operated in a balanced weight limit. Before the plane crashed, it was flying at an altitude of 32,000 feet.
Mardjono said the aim of the investigation was to enhance transportation system safety, and that the KNKT would make recommendations to improve transportation safety. “So, this not to point fingers or demand compensation.”
KNKT chairman Tatang Kurniadi confirmed that the investigators had opened and begun extracting data from the ill-fated aircraft's black boxes. Tatang said it would take the KNKT around 12 months to secure complete data so as to pinpoint the main cause of the accident.
