TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chelsea have made it to Capital One Cup after defeating Liverpool 1-0 at Stamford Bridge earlier today. It was Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic that scored the decider in extra time, as both teams played a goalless draw in normal time.
Liverpool, determined to steal a spot in the final, played superbly in the first half, booking several attempts on goal. Luckily for Chelsea, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois played it cool under the goalpost, preventing the Reds from scoring.
In the second half, the wind of fortune rose for Chelsea as they played a better gameplay and put more pressure against the opponent. Nevertheless, no goal was scored in normal time, causing the match to continue to extra time as there was no away-goal system in League Cup.
Ivanovic's superb header in 94th minute finally ended the stalemate. Alas, the West Londoners now await the final, facing either Sheffield United or Tottenham Hotspur that will play a decider tonight.
