TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Association of Indonesian Film Producers (PPFI) and the Tourism Ministry are speaking in voice about the importance of maintaining national films existence both inside and outside of the country. This was expressed during the met up between the two bodies.

According to PPFI Chairman Firman Bintang, the promotion of Indonesian films have so far gone well even though the ministry’s nomenclature shift have caused anxieties for the film industry practitioners. PPFI is hoping that the Ministry continue to support the efforts of building Indonesian films image at global level. Such effort was initiated by PPFI and stakeholders since 10 years ago.

“Because building the image of Indonesian films in the international world is no easy,” said Bintang.

PPFI also brought several issues to the meeting including suggestion to keep the film industry under the authority of Tourism Ministry instead of Education and Culture Ministry.

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya agreed, in the occasion, that films should be the part of creative industry, adding that he would need a clear map of film industry in Indonesia.
