TEMPO.CO, Madrid - Real Madrid star player Cristiano Ronaldo has been penalized with a 12-match ban in relation to the red-card he received last weekend in a La Liga match against Cordoba. The recent Ballon d'Or winner were caught kicking Cordoba player Edimar and hitting Jose Angel Torres.
Mundo Deportivo, a Barcelona-based newspaper, reported that the Portuguese player is subject to sanction for excessive violence. On the other hand, a Madrid-based newspaper Marca, reported that the sentence will be light as referee Alejandro Hernandez did not note the incident as an act of violence in his post-match report. Marca predicted that Ronaldo will face a three-match ban, causing him matches against Real Sociedad, Sevilla, and Atletico Madrid.
Following the incident, Ronaldo himself has posted his apology to Edimar via social media, in which the Brazilian defender responded well.
Football authority is set to decide the sanction for Ronaldo on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.
