TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said that he has prepared three moves to help solve thugs problem in Jakarta, aiming to reduce crime rate in the city. "We are trying to help the Police," said Ahok.
Ahok said that the first attempt will be installing more closed-circuit television (CCTV) throughout the city. This year, Jakarta city administration receives 2,500 new CCTVs from CSR program. The CCTV will then be linked to the Police, thus helping solve crimes.
The second attempt will be to eradicate slum residence in Jakarta. Ahok claimed that such residence often hosts incoming residents and thugs, often being a hideout for criminals. Residents will then be relocated to bunkhouse.
Lastly, Ahok said that he will recruit thugs to serve as official parking officers. They will be hired and paid as much as twice the provincial minimum wage. Therefore, they do not need to collect or extort other residents.
