TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesman of the Transportation Ministry, Julius Adravida Barata, said that Airlines must now provide at least one medical staff for checking in flight crews before taking off. The policy is as issued by Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan on January 15 concerning Health Standard and Flight Personnel Certification.
Barata said that the medical staff is tasked to check on blood pressure and alcohol level. "If other issues come up, doctors presence is then necessarty," he said.
The regulation, according to Barata, was issued to prevent incidents involving unhealthy flight crews. The ministry claimed that the regulation can help improve safety, amid the existing random checking protocol.
