TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Annual music event Java Jazz Festival is set to be held for the eleventh time starting from March 6 to 8. On almost the same date, March 5 to 8, a similar event Singapore Jazz Festival is also going to be held at Marina Bay Sands.
Dewi Gontha, the Director of Java Festival Production said that by teaming up with Singapore Jazz Festival it is easier to engage international musicians to perform in the festival. Therefore, do not be surprised oi there will be a number of same international artists such Chakha Khan, Bobby McFerrin, Chris Botti, Jessie J, dan Snarky Puppy as performing in both festivals.
Despite the same featured artists plus insignificant distance between Jakarta and Singapore, Dewi do not worry that her audiences will be turning to the Singapore festival. She even targets an increase of around 27,000 audiences in the three-day Java Jazz Festival.
“Last year it was 113 visitors, and this year it is targeted to have 130,000 in three days,” said Dewi after a a press conference for the festival.
The 11th Java Jazz Festival will be carried out under the theme of ‘Exploring Indonesia’ with Bali’s barong as the mascot. National artists who will be participating in the festival include Ananda Sukarlan, Sheila on 7, and Reza Artamevia.
