TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo will officially establish the Creative Economy Agency and inaugurate its head on Monday.
The head of the Vice Presidential Team of Experts, Sofjan Wanandi, said several names had been chosen as candidates for the agency's top position, among them rock guitarist Abdee Slank.
The agency will consist of 10 to 12 directors with various professions, such as musician, filmmaker, actor and actress.
After his inauguration, President Jokowi has been planning to form a special agency to coordinate activities of the creative economy sector under his direct coordination.
According to Sofjan, this agency will encourage innovations in the creative economy sector, including improved appreciation toward the rights of intellectual property.
The agency is formed after the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, which was established during then president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's era, was streamlined into the Tourism Ministry to allow more focus on the creative economy sector.
Previously, the government also formed the National Collective Management Agency (LMKN) comprising popular musicians, such as Rhoma Irama and Ebiet G. Ade.
