Along the Sosrowijayan Street
The 96-year-old Mbok Lindu has been selling her ‘dry’ gudeg on a bamboo table on this street since she was a young girl. It means that she has been selling it since the Dutch colonial era. She starts the business hour from 05.00 in the morning until 10.00 am local time. Per portion of Mbok Lindu’s gudeg is offered at Rp15,000 to Rp25,000 depending to what side dish you want to have.

Wijilan Gudeg
On Wijilan street next to Taman Sari, or in the east of Northern Town Square (Alun-Alun), restaurants selling gudeg are lining up. Initially, there was only one gudeg seller owned by Ibu Slamet who started her business since the 1942. As time goes by, many more vendors are opened. There are currently 10 gudeg vendors on this area including the most popular gudeg Yu Djum.
Yu Djum opened his restaurant in 1950 to sell dry gudeg. One of the secrets to its delicacy is that she cooks the dish on a traditional fireplace fuelled by firewoods. She also uses only female free-ranged chickens as the ingredient. The dish is priced at Rp17,000 to Rp40,000 per portion.

48-hour Lasting Gudeg
Bu Tjitro restaurant which is located near Prambanan Temple and Adi Sucipto airport is widely known. It was first introduced in 1925. The restaurant offers menu in single portion or packages. If you go with three people or more, it is better to order the package. The dry gudeg poured with coconut milk is suitable for those who likes sweets.
Bu Tjitro’s gudeg is also known to remain good to eat up to 48 hours which is suitable for travel.

Midnight Gudeg
If hunger strikes you in the middle of the night, you do not need to worry since there is a street vendor on Jalan Gajah Mada that opens at nights. It is located across Permata cinema. The dish is cooked on a fireplace fueled by charcoals in a big-size portions.
The gudeg is wet with tender chicken curry and cassava leaves and beans. With Rp25,000, a complete set of gudeg wil save you from midnight starving.
