TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rain with strong winds have hit East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province in the past two days, causing floods in a number villages in Kupang city, Kupang regency and Malaka regency.
At least 200 houses were reportedly flooded.
"There are a number of areas reportedly hit by floods,” said Head of NTT Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Tini Thadeus to the journalists, Sunday, January 25, 2015.
According to her, the heavy rain has made four villages in Kupang Regency flooded. Those four villages were Manubelon and Bioba Baru in North Amfoang regency, Naitae in West Fatuleu Barat agency, and Mata Air.
No casualties were reported in the floods, but hundreds of houses were damaged and cattles were carried away by floodwaters.
Several residents have taken refuge to their relatives’ houses that were not affected by the floods.
In the meantime, in Kupang city, dozens of houses were reportedly inundated, while in Malaka, which borders Timor Leste, floods reportedly inundated hundreds of houses after water from Benanain river in Malaka sub-district overflew.
