TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta city administration issued a Governor Decree No. 1/2015 on ban on cigarette ads and tobacco products on billboards. By doing so, all cigarette ads in public spaces are prohibited.
The Jakarta City Secretary, Saefullah, stated that there will be no longer a permit to cigarette ads on billboards. As for the unexpired ad permit is still allowed.
"It is effective because it was promulgated," he said at the City Hall, as quoted by Antara News.
He acknowledged that has instructed the Jakarta One-Door Integrated Service Agency (BPTSP) to refuse permit renewal for outdoor media. "No more renewal. We also have told the BPTSP about this," he said.
According to the former Central Jakarta Mayor, this matter has been on discussion for a long time. Its consideration is the call of the international community. Additionally, his party received input from the public and anti-tobacco NGOs.
"It is also the local government's concern. I'm sure it will not have a big impact on the billboard tax revenue. Because there is still other ads," he said.
