TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – A survey by BMI Research shows that the value of online shopping in 2014 reached Rp21 trillion. This year, the value is predicted to increase to Rp50 trillion.
The projection is made on the assumption that a person spends an average of Rp825,000 on online purchases per year, said BMI Research chief Yoanita Shinta Dewi yesterday.
The survey also noted that, in 2014, about 24 percent of Indonesia's internet users shopped online. "This year, the figure is estimated to reach 57 percent," said Yoanita.
According to Yoanita, BMI Research's Online Shopping Outlook 2015 shows there is a huge growth opportunity for online shopping market in Indonesia that comes from the country's growing number of internet users. This year, the Ministry of Communications and Information is targeting to have 150 million internet users nationwide.
