Ministry Records 35 Percent of Franchise Business Growth

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Trade has recorded a 35 percent growth in the Indonesian Franchise business during the past six months and is forecasted to increase by 50 to 65 percent this year.
"In 2014, the Indonesian Francise Association (AFI) recorded that our franchise's turnover reached Rp 172 trillion," said Fetnayeti, Director of Business Development Trade of the Ministry of Trade, on Wednesday, January 21, 2015.
Based on the Ministry of Trade records, there were 2,250 franchise businesses in Indonesia in 2013. As much as 84 percent of the total number were local franchise businesses.
Risti Wulansari, an Intellectual Property Rights consultant, said that potential franchise business growth in Indonesia can be seen from a sustainable GDP growth of 5.7 percent and the size of the domestic market supply with 53 percent of the total population living in modern cities.
