TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan has set a target to install air conditioners on all buses within two or three years ahead. Jonan said on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, all public transportations will be required to close their doors when running on the road.
The regulation, he said, will be applied in 34 cities with 3,000 standard buses procurement.
The Transportation Ministry has acquired an additional budget of Rp20 trillion (US$1.6 billion). The land transportation directorate’s budget has increased from Rp4.03 trillion to (US$335.8 million) Rp5.07 trillion (US$422.5 million). Jonan said the biggest challenge faced by the ministry was to utilize the entire budget.
Jonan has also asked the House of Representative not to criticize the ministry’s policy to save the budget.
Jakarta Governor is currently striving to encourage the people to use public transportations by restricting motorcycles in several streets and imposing car age limits in Jakarta.
