IPB Involved in Investigation of Bogor Botanical Garden Incident

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bogor police have invited wood experts from Forestry Institute of Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) to investigate the cause of the falling of a branch from a resin tree that claimed six lives and injured 20 on Sunday, January 11, 2015.
Chief of Criminal Division of Bogor Police Adj. Com. Auliya R. Djabar said that the experts would be led by Head of IPB Division of Timber Engineering and Wood Building Design, Lina Karlinasari.
"Today, we conducted the second investigation at the scene where the branch fell to find out the exact cause of the incident,” Auliya said on Friday.
“We will also investigate whether such a disaster could be prevent and minimized or detected early,” he added.
In this investigation, the police and the experts took several pieces of woods, dirt, tree barks, and the material from inside the porous woods.
"We are going to examine all these items at IPB laboratory,” he added, adding the examination would not only be done to the porous trees but also to those in good condition.
