TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Traditional herbal drink (Jamu) that is made of turmeric and tamarind fills up several bottles of mineral water in the corner of a bamboo-walled food stall.
Javanese traditional vegetable salad Urap consisting of papaya leaves seems to be a good companion for the fresh drink. The stall also sells variety of organic fruits and vegetables, organic rice and tubers.
The stall that is located in Milas Vegetarian Resto, Jl. Prawirotaman 4, Yogyakarta, and the products are belonging to Pasar Organik (Organik Market) community which is also known as Pojog. The community, which consisting of local organic food vendors and producers, has been promoting culinary made of locally grown foods.
In addition to the stall, the community also routinely holding organic pop up marker in some spots.
“This is a campaign to familiarize organic products to the people,” said Imam Hidayat, a member of the community.
The organic market in the parking lot of the restaurant opens on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:00 local time. Imam believes that promoting organic foods are not only about promoting health but also promoting the environment. He took the use of organic fertilizers for example of environmentally friendly farming system.
