TEMPO.CO, Kupang – The East Nusa Tenggara AIDS Prevention Commission released a data saying that 105 babies in the province are infected with HIV and AIDS.
"The most is in the city of Kupang and Belu. This is the result we obtained from the VCT," commission chairman Husein Pancratius told reporters on Friday, January 9.
VCT is short for Voluntary Counseling and Testing, a process of counseling before and after voluntary HIV testing. The process is confidential and early in helping people acquire information about their HIV status.
The number of infants infected with HIV and AIDS, according to Hussein, is expected to rise in 2015. The current number of patients recorded is actually smaller than the actual number of HIV infected, as there are many districts that do not implemented the VCT program.
As of 2014, the number of people living with HIV and AIDS in East Nusa Tenggara reached 3,041 people since it was first discovered in East Flores in 2007. "There are many who are not recorded," Husein said.
