TEMPO.CO, Bekasi – The Bekasi municipal administration has allotted Rp142 billion to repair a total of 128 school buildings in the municipality. “The damages vary, from light to severe ones, said Dadan Ginanjar, the Bekasi Construction and Fire Department Agency chief, on Sunday, January 4, 2014.

Ganjar said the damaged school buildings comprised elementary, junior high, senior high and vocational school buildings. He added the administration was repairing more school buildings than last year, which saw 95 buildings.

Dadand said the planned repair was part of his administration’s target to renovate damaged school buildings in the municipality, which would be progressively done until 2018. “We prioritize the severely-damaged ones,” he said.

Separately, Ronny Hermawan, a member of the Commission D of the Bekasi Municipal Regional Representatives Council, said the council would support the planned repair, adding that, “It is also important to have more classrooms.”

Ronny said it was also necessary for the government to establish schools for the disabled—a facility that was still lacking in the region. “The government must also construct more SLB (schools for the disabled), because the also have the same right [to education].”
