TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat had a blusukan (impromptu visit) to Ciliwung river to monitor the dredging and cleaning process of the river.
"We have to accelerate this project because Jakarta has entered the peak of the rainy season,” Djarot said after inspecting the dredging process of the river at Bidara Cina, East Jakarta.
Djarot also voiced his concern that if the project runs slowly, big floods would be inevitable.
Therefore, he hoped that the dredging and the cleaning process of the river could ease the flow of water so it would not overflow and inundate people’s houses.
During the impromptu visit, Djarot was accompanied by Jatinegara District Head Syofian Taher and representatives from the Jakarta Water Management Public Work Agency.
According to the Deputy Governor, the dredging had to be completed by the end of December or early January 2015. Thus, he called for better performances from the Agency and the local governments.
