TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Yogyakarta City Administration is getting ready to welcome travelers who will spend Christmas and New Year holidays in the city. A number of supporting facilities such as souvenir centers, have been repaired and the city promises to present comfy time for the travelers.
“Supporting facilities in Malioboro are ready, only need to [prepare] technical aspect and manpower coordination,” said Head of Malioboro Technical Executive Unit (UPT) Syarif Teguh to Tempo after a meeting on Wednesday, December 17.
Preparation have been started since November, including replacement of park benches, radio speaker installation along the west and east side of the road, also preparation of the centered tourism information. The camouflaged speakers are said to play Javanese traditional musics starting from morning until dark to bring out Malioboro typical atmosphere.
“So that [people] feel like at home and enjoy shopping in Malioboro,” said Syarif.
The tourism information center be shifted to the side of the road instead of inside the office. Therefore, any information is expected to be processed quicker.
Other good news for shopaholic is that vendors have been committed not to raise prices to maintain tourists’ interest for shopping.
“It is better to reduce margin of profit as long as tourists are not hesitate to shop,” said Rudiarto, the Coordinator of Malioboro’s Yogyakarta Street Vendor Association (PPKLY).
