TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Police will launch an annual operation code-named "Operasi Lilin Jaya 2014" (Jakarta Candle Operation) beginning December 23, 2014-January 2, 2015 to secure Christmas and New Year celebrations in the capital.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said the operation would involve 3,943 joint personnel comprising 3,051 policemen from the Jakarta Police, 482 policemen from the National Police (Polri) headquarters, 120 soldiers from the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and 290 officials from the Jakarta administration.
"The operation will be launched at tomorrow morning's rehearsal at the Jakarta Police Traffic Operations field," said Rikwanto on Monday, December 22, 2014. The ceremony will be headed by National Police chief Gen. Sutarman.
Rikwanto explained Christmas masses and services would be held in 1,680 churches across Jakarta: 271 churches in North Jakarta, 125 in Central Jakarta, 219 in West Jakarta, 182 in East Jakarta, 151 in South Jakarta, 133 in Depok, 126 in Tangerang city, 91 in Tangerang regency, 259 in Bekasi city, and the remaining 123 in Bekasi regency.
"We will concentrate our personnel at several churches considered as 'high-risk' churches across Jakarta," finished Rikwanto.
