TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Two-meter-deep floodwaters are inundating Kampung Pulo area in Jatinegara on Monday. Fatma, a 67-year-old resident, said the water began to rise at around 7 a.m.
“The water level climbed to 2.28 meters. It rose so fast,” she said.
Fatma added the water began to subside at around 10 a.m. She said she had never evacuated since childhood because the water level had never reached four meters.
"I will evacuate once the floodwaters breach into the house or reach four meters,” she said, adding that she preferred to stay on the second floor of her house as opposed to evacuating.
The mother of three said she was willing to be evacuated by the government if she was to be sheltered at the new Kampung Melayu or Jatinegara low-cost apartments.
