TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta administration is planning to build Light Rapid Transit (LRT) facilities in 2015. The first LRT corridor that would connect Kebayoran Lama area with Kelapa Gading area was projected to cost Rp9.3 trillion (US$775 million).
Deputy Governor for transportation Sutanto Soehodho said there are several scenarios to build the LRT. First, the Jakarta administration would fund the whole development and management. However, Sutanto said that it would be better if private sectors took participation in the project.
“I think private sectors should participate [in the project],” Sutanto said on Friday, December 19 2014.
The second option, Sutanto explained, is that involving private sectors in the project. In such a scheme, the government would only build the LRT infrastructures, such as buildings, railways and flyovers. For instance, the government would contribute Rp7.5 trillion to build the first corridor, while the rest of the fund would be financed by private sectors.
Private sectors, Sutanto added, would gain profit from tickets sold. Therefore, the government would not have to provide subsidy for tickets. To repay the government expenses, Sutanto said, the city could issue bonds to be offered to public.
