Govt Freezes Import Licenses for 32 Products

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Trade Ministry has frozen the Product Registration Number (NPB) of 32 imported goods for not meeting the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). As of today, the government has frozen the NPBs of 85 products in 2014.

"All of the products that are do not meet SNI requirements must be retracted from circulation as they could endanger customers' security, safety, and health," said Widodo, the Industry Ministry's director general of consumer protection standardization in Jakarta, yesterday.

Tutum Rahanta, executive manager of the Indonesian Association of Retailers (Aprindo) said the revocation of import licenses will not affect goods' market availability. "There are still similar goods are still many in the market," he said yesterday.
