TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Supreme Court (MA) chief justice Hatta Ali said on Friday, December 19, 2014, that he was supportive of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s move to drag fish poachers to the Special Maritime Court.
Currently, there are ten Fisheries Affairs Courts in Indonesia, which were established in North Jakarta, Medan, Pontianak, Bitung and Tual in 2007. The latest was established in Ambon based on the Presidential Decision Number 6/2014.
Hatta Ali said the Fisheries Affairs Court or the Special Maritime Court works just like the Corruption Court. Both courts are under a district court in a region and the panel of judges comprises carrier and ad hoc judges.
Moreover, Hatta said, both courts handled cases in similar procedures. Hatta explained that an investigator serving at the Fisheries Affairs Court could be a civil servant or a staffer of the Maritime and Fisheries Ministry.
