TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Photo-based social network Instagram beat Twitter in terms of monthly activity as it records 300 million user log-ins. The number had increased significantly compared to 2013 where the app's monthly activity only hit 150 million users.
"Over the past four years, what began as two friends with a dream has grown into a global community that shares more than 70 million photos and videos each day," wrote chief executive Kevin Systrom to Washington Post.
Systrom, who joined Instagram when Facebook acquired the app for US$1 billion in 2012, said that there are 70 million photos and videos shared each day. In response to the success, Instagram launches verification features for accounts belong to famous people to filter scammy accounts.
Research company eMarketer reveals that youngsters aged 18 to 24 years old dominate the social network.
“Mostly from outside United States,” Washington Post wrote.
Instagram’s growth sure become good news for Facebook who is currently work on its ambition to rule instant messenger market. Instant message application WhatsApp, which was acquired by Facebook early this year has booked 600 million users while Facebook Messenger books 500 million users.
